Founded by myself, Tom, and my partner Bethan, Makuta was born from my own fight with Hodgkin Lymphoma, a journey that tested me physically, mentally, and emotionally through multiple battles and the prospect of a stem cell transplant. In the darkest moments, when control felt lost, it was community, the support, love, and belief of those around me, that kept me going, and it opened my eyes to a painful truth. Too many people facing cancer are fighting without that support. Cancer is not just a physical illness. It is an emotional war, and no one should face it alone. The idea for Makuta took shape during my recovery, inspired by the small things that helped me feel human again, like wearing hats after losing my hair, which became a symbol of comfort, confidence, and strength. What began with hats grew into a full clothing brand designed to offer identity, choice, and belonging, while giving back through support for Lymphoma Action. Every piece represents unity and resilience, every purchase helps fund vital support services, and every person who wears Makuta becomes part of a movement that believes in thriving, not just surviving. Makuta exists to bring people together, empower warriors, survivors, families, and supporters, and prove that when we stand connected, we are stronger than cancer.
